In partnership with the Universal College of Learning and the Ministry for Primary Industries, Veterans’ Affairs is seeking registrations of interest from New Zealand veterans who may like to take part in a pilot course specifically for veterans, at the Taratahi Agricultural Training Centre in the Wairarapa.

What you can expect

The five day course is designed to introduce those veterans who might be out of work or looking for a career change to farming skills such as working with farm vehicles, fencing, sheep and cattle, as well as an introduction to apiculture (beekeeping).

The modules are taught by industry professionals and delivered through hands-on learning in a farming environment.

All meals and accommodation will be provided and Veterans’ Affairs will meet the cost of return travel to and from Taratahi. Participants will be expected to travel to Taratahi on Sunday 29 November 2020 for commencement of the programme on the following day.

What you need to know

To participate on the course you must:

  • be at least 18 years of age
  • have Qualifying Operational Service
  • have a basic level of fitness and no physical disabilities that might prevent you from taking part in the programme.

The pilot course is limited to eight veterans. Registrations of interest will be considered on a first-come first-served basis.
