Veterans’ Affairs is offering you a chance to learn some farming skills

February 5, 2021

Could farming be your new career? Here’s a chance to get a taste of some skills that you will need.

Veterans’ Affairs are accepting registrations of interest from New Zealand veterans who want to take part in a taster-farming skills course. Run by UCOL in partnership with the Ministry of Primary Industries and Veterans’ Affairs, the courses will be held at the Taratahi Agricultural Training Centre in the Wairarapa.

About the courses
Each course is five days and is designed to introduce you to farming skills. Modules include working with farm vehicles, fencing, sheep and cattle, and beekeeping. They’re taught by industry professionals and you will learn through hands-on learning in a farming environment.

You can join one of two courses. These courses begin on these dates:
🟢 1-5 March 2021
🟢 12-16 April 2021

All meals and accommodation will be provided for and Veterans’ Affairs will also meet the cost of return travel to Taratahi. Veterans’ Affairs would like you there the day before your course starts.
This year Poppy Day is celebrating women in the services. In the spirit of Poppy Day Veterans’ Affairs would like to encourage women veterans to register for the course beginning 12 April, although both courses are open to all veterans.
